Life

we often times tend to not appreciate this thing we call life. It seems as if life needs to have a purpose and it is somehow an unsaid rule we all follow. We get inclined towards things because many a times they seem to resonate with us or just feel “natural” in a way. It is a good thing for sure. The only problem here is , sometimes it becomes such a part of our identity that you start getting defined by those things. Muhammad Ali — The boxer, Newton — the physicist, Elon Musk — the Genius Billionaire Playboy Philanthropist, Arnold — The bodybuilder/Actor. You are identified by “what you do” in this world we live in.

The problem lies where the thing you do outgrows you yourself. Sometimes what happens is you grow believing you belong to a certain category and you seem to have your purpose figured out much earlier in life than many people. But, the moment those beliefs are challenged by reality, the world seems meaningless. This thing that you believed is the purpose of life doesn’t feel the same way again. Maybe you chose that thing when it felt right and just kept going and now it somehow doesn’t feel right. It suddenly feels like there is no point in doing anything else because you failed at this thing you believe was your purpose.

I write this as I myself have many dilemmas to deal with often times. When I learnt to acquire knowledge and learn things on my own, the world became a little too open. I explored so much that I couldn’t understand what to even do? My interests began branching so quickly that at one point I asked myself , is this me?

The thing is, you can never properly define what “me” is. Is “me” your brain? your body? what exactly is it? just consciousness? your work, does that define who you are?

I partially came to a conclusion very recently though. We all are just tiny little creatures on this tiny speck of dust in an endless and ever expanding universe. So, maybe the purpose of life is to- explore ! you more or less have a limited time on this planet , and you’ve probably lived a bit of it to be able to read this article. So wouldn’t you just like to explore? There is so much this world has to offer, your interests may change drastically over the years , and I believe that is fine. What is not fine although is to be self limiting. Sometimes being self limiting helps to focus on one thing, but if you keep the same outlook towards the future I guess you’d have narrowed down your life experiences by a huge margin. So seek out to do something new! go on that walk, spend time with people you love, dwell on those ideas you’ve had for a while, expect things from life, because sometimes, dreams come true, and those moments are magical indeed. In our mind we set so many boundaries and often fail to see them. It can be something as small as not doing something because you think it is not possible for you , maybe you think you don’t deserve it ,maybe it seems impossible, but if it is important for you then go ahead , at least TRY. True failure is not trying.

I make many of the important decisions in life by just acknowledging my mortality. I look at myself on my deathbed and wonder , if I don’t do this, will I regret it? It makes it much simpler somehow. If my gut says yes in that moment I do whatever I possibly can to make sure that I go forward with it.

Most of the times its easy to make decisions , we often do it unconsciously, like deciding to mindlessly scroll through twitter and many more such tiny things like that. when it comes to the more important decisions in life, we either leave it up to someone else( never do that, I repeat never do that) or else we overanalyze the situation. For me, imagining myself on my deathbed , lying on it, dying to just get a bit more out of life when I know I cannot makes it ten orders of magnitude simpler. So, when you are aware of it, take it, seize that chance that comes to you if your gut says so. At least you can look back and think “I explored all possibilities and whatever happened was probably supposed to happen” instead of thinking “I wish I had tried doing that, it could have been so beautiful” moments before you breathe one last time.

So, EXPLORE ! that is what I truly feel life is about. At least live those moments with all your heart . Life might not offer that chance twice you know.

Somethings might seem crazy, and I mean insane, but if you feel fulfilled doing that then go for it, don’t let anything stop you.

I really was inspired by Ben Nemtin, who was frustrated with how life was and his friends felt the same way. So they took off time from college and rented a purple RV, made a bucket list of things they’d want to do before dying and they managed to cross almost all of the items on their bucket list (Which included playing Basketball with Obama when he was the sitting president).

Uncertainty is interwoven in the universal fabric, you can’t change it, but you sure can experience it, and sometimes, it goes your direction. You maybe uncertain about what someone is thinking or about the outcome of something, but if you’ve done what you can possibly do , then I guess the outcome will be what it is supposed to be. Cheers !
